gentle voices, vol. 1 is a collaborative project that brings together 20 different women artists and producers (from 15+ countries around the world) who are creating music in the in the ambient, and ambient adjacent space.

Brought together by Anita Tatlow (vocal artist & co-founder of the ambient record label Echoes Blue Music), and Cynthia Bernard (founder of cloud collecting, and artist as marine eyes), each artist was selectively paired together and asked to create under the theme ‘gentle voices’, and the results have been stunning, mesmerising and powerful.

The 10-track compilation will be released on Friday March 6, ahead of International Women’s Day on Sunday March 8, as a celebration and representation of women and gender expansive artists who are quietly and diligently creating art through their work in the ambient scene, and the music industry at large.

With artwork created from light-infused photographs taken by Cynthia Bernard specifically for this project, her aim was to capture different reflections of nature through a series of lenses and frames, with the soft edges intentionally mirroring the compilation’s theme of ‘gentle voices’. Images were captured in local parks near her home, along a sun-washed beach, mountain landscapes, throughout winding hiking trails, and a street dotted with flowers in full bloom.

Each photograph was carefully selected by the team to correspond with the emotion and tonal “color” of one of the ten tracks. Through the cover art and accompanying visuals, our hope was to reflect the uniqueness of each of the pieces, while also tying them together so that visually they are seamlessly a part of the same project.
